Sikkim Organic Farming

The pioneer of organic farming in Sikkim Mr. Pawan Chamling (Former Chief Minister of Sikkim), highlights the importance of organic farming in his speech, that states-

“Organic farming system aims to produce healthy food while building healthy soil, maintaining ecological balance, establishing sustainable production. Organic farming system operates in complete harmony with nature adopting four basic interconnected ethical principles of health, ecology, care and fairness.

Sikkim is the first state in the world with 100% organic farming and blessed with calm and beautiful rivers flowing down the Himalayas. The introduction of organic farming has changed the way of living for people in Sikkim and has brought them closer to nature. Mr. Chamling inculcated the importance of organic farming in the minds of farmers and entire agricultural sector. The cultural peculiarity of the people of Sikkim helped them to accept the change proposed by their leader. Organic farming is practiced to grow vegetables as well as for the floriculture.  Today Sikkim’s capital Gangtok is listed as one of the cleanest and organic cities in the world. Sikkim is well-known for its natural beauty, snow clad mountains but now it is also famous for adding more colors to the beauty by eco-friendly farms, crystal clear water and healthy food that welcomes you.
